Every Sunday Morning from 11:30-12:00 following Zion's regular worship broadcast on AM 1450 WMOH

***Now also airing Sundays from 9:00-9:30 a.m.***

Zion has partnered with WMOH to air Grace Matters from 11:30 to 12:00 each Sunday morning following Zion’s worship service that weekly airs from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Grace Matters is a half-hour Christian radio program produced and sanctioned by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

Grace Matters is grounded in the gospel of Jesus Christ and experienced in the creative thinking and lives of program guests featured every week. Host Peter W. Marty taps into the hearts and minds of interesting people who believe that God’s grace makes a difference in the way they live their lives. From boardrooms to baseball fields, and from the developing world to your own backyard, Grace Matters’ guests come from all walks of life. What they share in common is a desire to live faithful lives of Christ-like meaning and significance.

Angel Giving Tree

The Salvation Army Angel tree is in our church lounge. If you would like to provide gifts for a child, please select at tag off the tree. Each tag represents a child in need this Christmas. Take note of the information provided and purchase new gift/gifts for the child. Keep the gift unwrapped and securely attach the tag. If there is more than one gift, put them in a garbage bag with the tag on the outside. Last year we adopted close to 50 families; let’s do it again. Questions: call 863-5615.

December Adult Fellowship Activity

The December Adult Fellowship event will take place at the Vinoklet Winery, 11069 Old Colerain Rd in Colerain Twp. Join us for Vinoklet Winery’s “Grill to Perfection” Dinner on Sunday December 7th at 6:00. Dinner begins with each guest sampling 7 of Vinoklet’s wines then choosing a ½ carafe (for single) or bottle (per couple) of your choice. After you choose your wine each guest will select either a steak, pork chop, chicken, or fish entrée with selections of salads, side dishes, and desserts offered buffet style. The entrée is grill your own. The cost of a dinner is typically between $25 - $30.00. Dress is generally casual.

6:30-7:00 – INSTRUCTIONAL
7:00-10:00 – TOURNAMENT PLAY

Mark your calendars NOW for Euchre night.  The night will play out the same as usual -- we will have a refresher/instructional time 30 minutes prior to the actual tournament play.  You do not need to have a partner to play.  We do ask that you commit to the entire 3 hour event.  We will have sign-ups prior to each event (you are not signing up/committing to all the future dates).   Bring a snack to share and soft drinks will be provided.   Reminder there is a $1 entry fee.

The next Euchre night will be on Saturday, November 29th, 2008, in the Zion Rec Room.  If interested in joining us, please sign the sheet in the Great Hall.  This enables us to plan our tables.  If you have any questions, please contact Vicki or Bob Wheeler at 737-6915 (or vwheeler@cinci.rr.com).

Note:  This is our last Euchre night of 2008; the dates for 2009 are as follows:  1/31, 5/30, 8/29, 10/31.

Sharing Our Harvest of Harmony
Music from Zion Lutheran Church

The music department from Zion has recorded a CD with 22 favorite Christian pieces including: Nobody Knows the Trouble I’ve Seen; Christmas, So Full of Wonders; and many more. CD’s may be purchased from Randy Runyon, Lou Robinson, or the church office. The cost is $5. There is a limited supply so get yours today!

Zion is collecting for the clothing closet at First Lutheran Church in Over-the-Rhine during the month of November. Items requested include clothing, shoes/boots, socks, new/like new underwear, hoodies, and coats for both men and women. Men’s clothing is currently their greatest need. Please wash all items and bring to the stage at Zion.

Wernle Home is an agency of the ELCA located in Richmond, Indiana, whose mission statement reads: “Wernle is a family focused, child centered agency providing opportunities for the growth and development of troubled children and their families---individually, socially, and interpersonally---through caring programs and healing relationships which are reflective of God’s love revealed in Jesus Christ.” Each year the Women of Zion collect money for Christmas gifts for as many youth as possible. The cost to sponsor a child is $35. Of course, any amount is appreciated and checks may be made payable to Wernle. Just place them in the offering plate or give them to one of the women’s board members.

ZION BOY SCOUT TROOP SIGNUP---There is a signup sheet in the Great Hall for those boys and adults that are interested in having and participating in the startup of a scout troop here at Zion. We will have a meeting here in October with the local Ft. Hamilton Boy Scout District Executive for those interested. We are looking for potential leaders (men and women) that would be willing to help make this a success. Boys 10 and up are welcome to sign-up. No scouting experience is necessary, however, if you had some in cubs or scouting please indicate when you signup. If there are any questions please call Don Keck 829-3630. We will keep the signup sheet active thru October. This would be a good start to establish a Scouting Ministry at Zion together with the girl scouts. We can build from those here at Zion, your friends, and from the local schools and cub packs in the area.

Social Concerns

A Cry for Help – A Desperate Need!

The Open Door Pantry will be providing frozen turkeys to Hamilton families for the holiday season. Please consider donating a turkey to promote this effort. You can help by:

1.       Purchasing a turkey and bringing it to Zion. Lori Rehm or Barb Toman will deliver it to the pantry.

2.       Donating money to help purchase a turkey.

3.       Providing a gift certificate for a turkey.

4.       Delivering a turkey to the Open Door Pantry.

There will be a turkey basket in the great hall for all donations. All help will be greatly appreciated. Let no family go hungry at this special time of year.

Support World Hunger and have a little fun in the process.  Set aside the first Saturday of each month for ballroom dancing complete with dance lessons by the Einhorns.  $5.00 per person includes dance, lessons, and snacks (not to mention the big smile it pastes on your sweetheart’s face.)  All profits will go towards “God’s Global Barnyard” to donate farm animals for those in need abroad.

Zion's Book Club!

THE book of the month club  will meet on Tuesday, December 2. We will discuss The Shack by William P. Young. It is a story about Mack, a man whose daughter is kidnapped and brutally murdered. A few years after her murder, Mack receives an invitation from God to meet Him at the shack where they found his daughter's bloody clothes. Mack goes and works through the meaning of suffering as he spends the weekend with the Trinity.

Plan on joining us in the church lounge at 7:00 p.m. for interesting discussions. We always welcome new people. Remember, reading is good for the mind and soul!

The Young at Heart

The Young at Heart, a social group for those 55 and over, will be eating lunch at The Golden Lamb Restaurant in Lebanon, on Tuesday, December 2. We’ll meet at the church at 10:45 a.m. and carpool. Please sign the sheet in the Great Hall today, if you would like to go along.

We encourage all our seniors or almost seniors to go along for these fun outings. It gives you a chance to get to know your fellow church members.
